Brothers to the Rescue, angels on our shoulders

Pilots

Today I say a prayer for Armando Alej andre. Jr., Mario de la Peña, Carlos Costa and Pablo Morales, three American citizens and U.S. legal resident who were murdered by the Fidel Castro dictatorship Feb. 24, 2006, when their small private airplanes were shot down by Cuban MiGs in international air space. The Brothers were on mission to watch for any balseros who might be making a dash for freedom across the Florida Straits when they were shot down and killed.

There is so much evidence about the true, horrific nature of the Castro regime. The repression of free speech, the free press and other civil rights. The state-forced deprivation for the masses while tourists enjoy luxurious beach resorts. The unwillingness to let anyone who wants to leave that nightmare leave.

But fo r Americans who otherwise don't know or don't care about Cuba and Castro, and may wonder why we don't just do business with the man, the clearest evidence of the depraved, devilish nature of the Cuban regime has to be the murder of the four Brothers to the R escue.

How much more do you need to know about this bastard?

Many of my fellow Cuban bloggers have more extensive tributes to and biographies of Alejandre, de la Peña, Costa and Morales.

Also, the Miami Herald reports on how jailed Cuban spy may hold the evidence needed for a U.S. grand jury to indict Cuban Defense Minister Raúl Castro for giving the order to shoot down the planes.
