The town of Crawford, Texas, home to President Bush's ranch, has a new village idiot — Cindy Sheehan.
The Waco Tribune-Herald reports:
Peace activist Cindy Sheehan, whose roadside protests near President Bush’s ranch sparked traffic jams, kicked up dust and angered many Crawford-area residents last summer, is purchasing property just north of Crawford.
Sheehan, 49, says this new property will be the site of upcoming anti-war protests, once again planned for the month of August, when the president routinely spends much of his long vacation at his Central Texas ranch.
County records and sources indicate Sheehan, 49, purchased the land through a third party and will take full possession of the property in September, right about the time she wraps up her August protest at the site.
Gold Star Families for Peace has posted a news release in which Sheehan explains the move.
"Crawford is a beautiful place and Camp Casey has made it even lovelier," Sheehan wrote. "I feel so at home there. When I am able to return, I feel a renewal and resurgence of energy and hope. The sunrises and sunsets and star-lit nights are breathtaking and there is nothing like a cool (if rare) Crawford evening breeze to dry off the sweat and sweeten the soul."
I lived and worked in nearby Waco for more than seven years in the 1990s, and the Crawford area is quite beautiful — although not so much in the August heat. I used to take long afternoon drives on the rural farm-to-market roads linking Crawford with nearby Valley Mills, McGregor and Waco. I can see why Bush, and now Sheehan, would fall in love with the place.
The quality of the people, though — Cindy Sheehan long ago became much less than the mother of a fallen soldier — is about to take a big dip.
And as Malkin wonders, how will Sheehan stick to her "fast?"
