Dengue reappears in Cuba

Dengue fever, the scorn of Cuba's vaunted health care system last fall, is back, and it's causing a panic in Santiago de Cuba.

Journalist Lisette Bravo, in a story posted at CubaNet, reports that a quarantine has been declared El Instituto Preuniversitario de Ciencias Exactas Antonio Maceo, the site of previous outbreaks. A large number of disease-carrying mosquitos have been found at the school, and several teachers and students with symptoms have be admitted to a hospital.

Back on campus, the 1,500 students are being kept in quarantine. There is no potable water, and some students have been able to flee the school. State Security agents have been posted outside, and all access has been cut off to outsiders, including parents.
