Cuban prisoner of conscience Arnaldo Ramos Lauzerique, a member of the Group of 75 imprisoned in 2003, is on a hunger strike to protest rules requiring him to wear prison rules. In retaliation, guards have thrown him in a punishment cell.
Opposition leader Martha Beatriz Roque, herself a former political prisoner, said Ramos, 66, has never worn a prison uniform since being jailed in 2003. Political prisoners have traditionally refused to wear prison uniforms to protest their imprisonment.
Ramos' wife has tried to visit her husband and bring him some food, but prison officials have not allowed her to see him.
