Cuban political prisoner Alfredo Domínguez on hunger strike

Cuban political prisoner Alfredo Domínguez Batista, imprisoned since the "black spring" of 2003, started a hunger strike last week after he was transferred to a punishment cell — complete with insects and standing water — at the Las Tunas Provincial Prison, according to a report posted at Payo Libre.

Guards punished Domínguez after he protested a search of his cell he considered inappropriate.

UPDATED, June 3, 2009 Fellow political prisoner José Daniel Ferrer García has written a first-hand account of what happened to Domínguez.
