Cuban political prisoner Dr. Darsi Ferrer, who next week will complete his fourth month in prison with no formal charges being filed against him, is recovering from a hunger strike he conducted last month to protest the unjust way he is being treated.
His wife, Yusnaimi Jorge Soca, told Radio Martí that guards at the Valle Grand prison compounded their abuse of Ferrer while he was on hunger strike, threatening to deny him water and to send him to a punishment cell.
"Fortunately, they did not follow through on those threats," she said.
On Dec. 10, International Human Rights Day, you are invited to participate in a blogburst/blogacción to show your support for Dr. Ferrer, and to demand his immediate release.
Ferrer has used previous Human Rights Days to raise awareness about the dismal human rights situation on the island with street demonstrations and other activities. Since he is likely to be in prison on Dec. 10, it is incumbent that others take up the banner.
The blogburst/blogacción, where people go on the Internet — in the form of their own blog posting, blog comment, Twitter tweet, Facebook status, etc. — to show their support for Dr. Ferrer and his cause.
It can be as long as you want, or it can be just four words:
FREE DARSI FERRER NOW!
Or five words:
LIBERTAD POR DARSI FERRER YA!
