The Cuban independent journalist and blogger Dania Virgen Garcia Garcia was beaten and arrested Monday, while trying to attend a gathering at the home of the late Laura Pollan.
Garcia and her husband were approaching the residence when they were assaulted by security agents and taken to a Havana police station, according to her husband, Michel Iroy Rodríguez Ruíz. Numerous activists, including several members of the "Ladies In White," were arrested while trying to attend a literary tea at Pollan's home, which she shared with her husband, the former prisoner of conscience Hector Maseda.
At the police station, Garcia was placed in a cell with Dama De Blanco Inés Antonia Quesada Lemus, and the two began shouting slogans -- "Murderers" and "Laura lives!"
Rodriguez was later released, but as of Monday evening Garcia remained in custody.
Rodriguez said he was worried for his wife's life.
