Seven women with the Rosa Parks Feminist Movement for Civil Rights were beaten and arrested Wednesday during a protest in Santa Clara, according to Cubaencuentro.com.
On the first of each month, the activists participate in a "march for freedom and against impunity." On Wednesday, they also were demanding the release of fellow activist Yasmín Conyedo Riverón and her husband Yusmari Álvarez Esmori, who were arrested in early January.
The secret police responded with a dragnet, both in uniform and in civilian dress, before beating and taking away the seven activists.
Desperate to cover up what happened, officers even put up a blanket in front of a video camera being used by an activist to film the protest.
The seven activists are: Yaite Dianelis Cruz Sosa, Xiomara Martínez Jiménez, Yris Tamara Pérez Aguilera, María del Carmen Martínez López, Yanibel Valido Pérez, Damaris Moya Portieles and Idania Yánez Contreras.
