Dr. Oscar Elias Biscet in March 2010 was released from jail after more than eight years of unjust imprisonment. But three years later, he is not free.
The latest reminder of that came this month when the Castro regime denied Biscet, one of the island's most prominent dissidents, permission to visit the United States with his wife Elsa Morejon. Other dissidents and former political prisoners, especially those part of the Group of 75 imprisoned along with Biscet in 2003, have been similarly denied.
That despite the dictatorship's much ballyhooed "reform" lifting limits on the right of Cubans -- just not all Cubans -- to leave the country.
The reality is that nothing has changed, that the dictatorship still reserves for itself ultimate power over the lives of Cubans, even over those Cubans like Biscet who will never allow themselves to be subjugated to tyranny.
"My wife @elsamorejon travels at 10:30 a.m. Saturday to Miami. I cannot accompany here, the dictatorship has denied me that right."
