His father said Lima fell ill while exercising at the La Providencia prison in Holguin, but he blamed his son's condition not on exercised but on the stress of his imprisonment.
Lima in October 2011 was sentenced to 3 years in prison on charges of "public disorder" and "insulting national symbols." He and his brother Antonio Michel Lima Cruz had been arrested on Christmas Day 2010 when they marched through the streets of Holguin while carrying a Cuban flag and listening to the music of the Los Aldeanos. (Antonio was sentenced to 2 years in prison and released from prison in October 2012.)
Amnesty International named the Lima brothers prisoners of conscience in March 2012.
