For the third time in a week, leading Cuban activist Jorge Luis Perez Garcia "Antunez", who has been on a hunger and thirst strike since Monday, and his wife Yris on Thursday were arrested and detained.
On the two prior occasions, police and/or their goons robbed the couple of many of their belongings. Since they don't have much left, there was nothing to take this time.
Instead, the motive this time seems to have been to give police the space they needed to paint the facade of the couple's home, on which they had painted anti-Castro slogans.
Babalu Blog has translations of emails that another leading dissidents sent Wednesday about what happened to Antunez and his wife:
12:47 pm EST:
Donaida Pérez Paseiro, sister-in-law of Jorge Luis Garcia Perez Antunez phoned to tell me that she went to the city block in Placetas where Antunez lives, and saw that the area is full of military personnel who have parked themselves right outside the door to his house, and that all of the telephones that he has been using no longer work, and this can be confirmed, that he fears for his life.
1:15 pm EST
Jorge Luis García Pérez Antúnez has just phoned me and says now that a third assault has been launched against his house, that his wife has been arrested, and that he had just woken up next to a police car after having passed out. "Don't let them kill us," is what he said, stammering.
