Independent Press Bureau in Cuba denounces detention and persecution of Director
Havana, April 10, 2006- The Information Bridge Cuba Miami Independent Press Bureau hereby denounce to the international Public opinion that on April 9th, Carlos Serpa Maceira, an Independent journalist with Lux-Info-Press and director of the Information Bridge Cuba Miami Independent Press Bureau was at the Nueva Gerona Maritime station set to travel by boat to Havana from the Isle of Pines when Agents of the National Revolutionary Police detained him under orders of an official of the State Security that was present at the station.
The independent journalist was transported in police car 081 to the local police station where he was subjected to a physical search and all his personal belongings were also searched.
They confiscated a DVD equipment Serpa was carrying, a cassette containing recorded News programs of TV Martí and a text denouncing human rights violations in his region. The journalist was released an hour later, making it impossible for him to go in the boat Río Las Casas.
The Information Bridge Cuba Miami Independent Press Bureau sends an alert of this action to all international organizations that defend the freedom of the press. We also demand a cease of the political persecution and harassment against those of us who are committed with freedom of the press, liberty and democracy for Cuba to the last consequences.
