Welcome, National Review readers. For more about Ché Guevara's true legacy, read my profiles of current Cuban political prisoners by clicking on the names on the right sidebar. Thank you for reading.
"A relentless hatred of the enemy, impelling us over and beyond the natural limitations that man is heir to and transforming him into an effective, violent, selective, and cold killing machine. Our soldiers must be thus; a people without hatred cannot vanquish a brutal enemy. We must carry the war into every corner the enemy happens to carry it: to his home, to his centres of entertainment; a total war."
— Ernesto "Ché" Guevara, failed revolutionary
Type in "Ché Guevara" into Google and up pops links to numerous sites celebrating one of the two hijos de puta maximo, along with Fidel Castro, of the Cuban revolution.
There are are a few exceptions, but to find them you have to wade through sites glorifying and justifying his murderous ways. And then there are the truly despicable sites, where you can buy everything from t-shirts to backpacks adorned with the bastard's image.
Clearly, almost 40 years after his death, and decades of despair in Cuba that, in part, can be traced to his disastrous tenure on the levers of power, the world needs a Ché Guevara Re-Education Program.
The curriculum is simple.
Just read the following:
Definitions, and a Murderer Named Ernesto
Go see "The Lost City." Before or after you see it, read about star/producer/director Andy Garcia's comments about Guevara.
(Here's a list of theaters where the movie is showing, or where it will be showing soon.)
And buy one of these t-shirts.
If you still have questions, repeat as many times as neccessary.
