Cuba Libre Digital reports that the dengue epidemic on the island has killed about 40 people.
There have been reports of as many 35,000 people suffering from the disease, which is transmitted by the "Aedes aegipti" mosquito, but a doctor quote in the Cuba Libre Digital cautioned against accepting that figure.
"Whenever somebody has high fever or muscle pain, already they say that he has dengue, but that is not always true. There have been about 4,000 to 6,000 registered cases this year, with about 40 dead," the doctor said.
The Cuban authorities have responded with massive fumigations in Havana and other cities.

One of the numerous Cubans who have been hospitalized with symptoms of dengue is dissident Roberto de Miranda, according to Miscelaneas de Cuba.
De Miranda, 60, and indepenent librarian and president of the illegal Independent Teachers College of Cuba, was arrested during the "black spring" crackdown of March-April 2003 and sentenced to 20 years in prison.
However, in June 2004, he was granted a medical parole because of his high blood pressure.
