No one is immune from oppression and repression in Cuba, not even religious ministers and not even at Christmas.
BosNewsLife is reporting this morning that evangelical pastor Joel Rojas of Holguin was in jail after he was convicted and sentenced earlier this month to seven years in prison for "human trafficking" by helping Cubans leave the country.
Another pastor, Carlos Lamelas, who had been jailed for four months, was acquitted of the identical charge, but he was convicted of a previously unannounced charge of falsification of documents. He was fined 1,000 pesos ($45).
According to BosNews Life, "Experts say the case illustrates the pressure on religious leaders to cooperate with Cuba's Council of Churches, a coalition of Protestant denominations close to the government."
