Payo Libre this morning has updates on several Cuban political prisoners:
— Juan Carlos Herrera Acosta's mouth is no longer sewed shut, in protest of conditions in his prison. Herrera, a journalist arrested in 2003, is serving a 20-year sentence.— It has been more than a month since Alfredo Domínguez Batista has had any contact with his wife. Melba Santana Ariz said she thinks she and her husband are being punished because she marched with the Ladies in White on Dec. 10, International Human Rights Day, and her husband participated in a prayer service with other political prisoners that day.
In a story posted last month at CubaNet, Domínguez detailed methods that prison officials use to punish him and other political prisoners.
"Whatever mechanisms they use against political prisoners at the Holguín provincial prison, we will continue our work for a free and democratic Cuba," Domínguez said.
Domínguez, a member of the Christian Liberation Movement arrested in 2003, is serving a 14-year prison sentence.
— It has been more than six months since Fabio Prieto Llorente has been able to use a telephone to contact family members, according to his sister. Prieto, a journalist arrested in 2003, is serving a 20-year prison sentence.
Still no word on whether Cindy Sheehan will speak up for these and other Cuban political prisoners.
