In the biggest non-surprise of the week, Cindy Sheehan and her clueless cohorts in pink will neither meet with Cuba's Ladies in White nor visit a Cuban prison, while on the island to protest the detention by the U.S. of suspected terrorists at the Guantanamo naval base, according to EFE.
The Ladies in White, unlike Sheehan and others in her group, regularly stand up to a real tyranny, putting at risk what little liberty they enjoy to speak up for their imprisoned loved ones. Their example should inspire anyone, even half-wits like Sheehan.
But the only thing that matters for Sheehan's group, is that it stay on message — America is evil — even if doing so exposes them as the cowards and hypocrites they really are.
"We are here as citizens of the United States, feeling responsible for what our government is doing," said Medea Benjamin, head of the groups Global Exchange and Codepink, as she adjusted the blinders on her head. "We are not here to see the problems that are in Cuba but to protest the abuses that are being committed at Guantanamo, although we do defend the respect for human rights in the whole world."
Except, apparently, in those parts of Cuba not under the control of the United States.
