Cuban independent journalist Raidi Caballero Suárez was arrested and detained for about five hours this past Thursday, according to a report by journalist Belinda Salas Tápanes, posted at Payo Libre.
Caballero, the spokesman for the John Paul II Reconciliation and Peace Liberation Movement, was arrested as he returned to his home in Baracoa, in far eastern Cuba. He had just collected $200 from the local Western Union office when he was arrested by a police officer identified as Eider Borrero Hernández.
The officer took the money, offering no explanation for the theft.
At a local police station, an officer with the political police warned Caballero not to send reports to foreign news agencies.
Reporters Without Borders also has the story.
