One of the more vile myths of the Cuban revolution, is that access to universal Castrocare is more than adequate to make up for the lack of basic freedoms that comes with life in a police state.
That myth meets its maker, in Fidel Castro's gulag.
If you are a political prisoner in Cuba, chances are you are sick, suffering from any heart, lung or stomach ailment imaginable. Just click on any of the names on the right side of this page.
And if you are a Cuban political prisoner in poor health, chances are your guards deny you adequate medical care. You are condemned to a virtual death sentence, as punishment for your opposition to the regime.
So chances are, any political prisoner could ask the question that Julián Antonio Moné Borrero — who claims he has been denied adequate treatment for his throat and blood pressure problems — asked, during an interview with independent journalist María Antonia Hidalgo Mir:
"Why, if the government preaches the excellence of public health, is this happening to me in a prison of the Castro regime?"
Mr. Moné, that's because of who you are — a patriot opposed to tyranny — and because of the evil and vile nature of the regime. No amount of mythmaking will ever change that.
