Former Cuban political prisoner Pedro Pablo Alvarez Ramos is too familiar with the reality of the Castro gulag.
(When I get a chance, I will try to translate into English.)
UPDATED, Feb. 1, 2009 To read it in English, read below the fold.
Guantánamo is in the news because of its announced closure. However, there is another Guantánamo in the hands of the Cuban government, which is just a sample of what happens in more than 60 high-security prisons that exist on the island. It is a cruel and inhumane prison used by the regime to silence the democratic opposition.
Peaceful and innocent democrats, prisoners for crimes not proven, are constantly subjected to physical and psychological torture, and harassment of all types of offenders who must coexist: thieves, madmen, pimps, sex maniacs, rapists, murderers handled by criminal authorities and the state security, and inhumane medical and sanitary conditions. Also, their families are subjected to smear campaigns and victims of the terrible "rallies of repudiation" executed by the alleged "revolutionary people."
The Cubans hope to free our freedom fighters.
