Leading Cuban gay activist arrested

Aliomar Janjaque Chivás, president of the Cuban Lesbian, Gay, Transexual and Bisexual Foundation, was arrested about 9 a.m. today in Havana, and his whereabouts were unknown this afternoon., according to CubaEncuentro.com.

Janjaque had complained to CubaEncuentro.com last week, after police detained and fined about 60 homosexuals gathered at a beach near Havana for an anti-homophobia event.

After 50 years, the Castro dictatorship has yet to get over its hang-ups over Cubans - gay or straight - expressing themselves.
