Journalists Lisbán Hernández Sánchez, left, and Adolfo Pablo Borrazá
Two Cuban independent journalists were arrested and detained for more than 9 hours Wednesday evening after they were caught doing what journalists do: Covering an important story.
Hernández and Borrazá were reporting on an outbreak of swine flu in a Havana neighborhood when they were detained about 5 p.m. by the local neighborhood watch organization - the Committee for the Defense of the Revolution - and police.
They were taken to a local police station. While being questioned, threatened, etc. inside, about a dozen anti-government activists gathered outside to bear witness to what was happening.
Hernández and Borrazá were released about 2:20 a.m. Thursday, but not before they were issued warnings about their activities. Also, Hernández was forced to hand over his Nikon digital camera.
