Monday, July 20, is Cuban political prisoner Dr. Oscar Elias Biscet's 48th birthday.
On Monday, July 20, please use your blog, your Facebook status, your Twitter feed or whatever online presence you have to wish him a Happy Birthday, and more importantly, to demand the Castro dictatorship immediately release him and other political prisoners in Cuba. (If you are on Twitter, please include "#Biscet" as part of your tweet.)
Biscet, perhaps Cuba's best-known political prisoner, has been in jail since 1999, except for a brief parole before he was re-arrested in 2002. The next year, he was sentenced to 25 years as a "threat to state security."
In fact, he is a threat to the Castro dictatorship, challenging everything from its pro-abortion policies to its overall repression of Cuban society. From behind bars, he has remained steadfast in his support for non-violent change and the end of tyranny.
An online shout-out on Biscet's behalf is a small step, but together we can speak loudly that this injustice cannot stand.
And if you don't blog, Facebook or Twitter, you can still send an e-mail to your friends or family, or just say a prayer.
As part of your statement on Biscet's behalf, you might include a posting or link to this video:
