Yordis García Fournier
Cuban political prisoner Yordis García Fournier was released from prison Monday, exactly one after he was jailed on a charge of "resistance." A member of the Cuban Youth Movement for Democracy, García vowed to continue with his anti-dictatorship activities.
Just don't call him "free," and not just because the authorities warned him that his activities would be monitored. Their concern is warranted, García conceded.
"I don't think I will give up who I am, I will always be who I am," García said.
"I find myself at this moment out of jail, but not 'free' like they said, because in reality, I am not free."

Izael Poveda Silva, who was arrested with García, remains in jail.
UPDATED, Sept. 3, 2009
Cuban Democratic Directorate has posted an English translation of García's statement.
If you have faith in freedom, it should make your day. Here's an excerpt:
At this time, I am out of prison, but I was not “set free” as they said, because I am not truly free. I told them I will be fully free when Communism and dictatorship no longer exist in this country. They merely allowed me to leave Combinado de Guantánamo prison and go home – no more than that.
Here I am. I feel ready and willing to continue struggling and working to further this noble and just cause, the liberation of the Cuban people from this dictatorship. I will always be willing.
I have a very clear message, not only to the youth of Cuba, but to the whole Cuban people. I want you to be conscious of the unique historical moment in our country. I consider this a good moment to tell the Cuban regime, “Enough. We have been oppressed for 50 years by the Castro brothers and we do not want any more of this succession.”
