Ricardo González Alfonso
Cuban political prisoner Ricardo González Alfonso's cell at the Combinado del Este prison in Havana is about 6 feet wide and 10 feet long. Inside, it's hot and humid, but that's of no mind to his captors. They recently denied him permission to install a fan, which might have provided some relief for González, who like other Cuban political prisoners suffers from a variety of health ailments.
I'm guessing Juanes' accommodations will be a little more comfortable when the Colombian pop star plays Havana's Revolution Square later this month.
Hopefully, Juanes will find some room in his conscience for those Cubans like González who won't be able to attend the show, and come to understand that without justice for him and other Cubans imprisoned because of their commitment to their consciences, there will be no peace in Cuba.
