The Cuban secret police, like the dictatorship it serves, is a band of cowardly thugs. No act, like the kidnapping and beating of its opponents, is beyond the pale for these hoodlums.
Just ask human rights activist Iris Tamara Perez Aguilera, who on Saturday, Dec. 26, was grabbed off the street by the secret police, thrown into a car and taken to police headquarters in Holguín. She was kidnapped while on her way to an event where activists are demonstrating their support for political prisoner Orlando Zapata Tamayo, who has been on a hunger strike since Dec. 3.
Perez, the wife of former political prisoner Jorge Luis Garcia "Antunez," was later released, but not before she was held in a tiny room apparently still under construction and suffered breathing problems brought on by the rough treatment.
Kidnapping and beating women — just another day for the Castro dictatorship and its thugs.
UPDATED, Dec. 28, 2009 — Something similar happened to about a dozen other dissidents last week.
