José Daniel Ferrer García
Cuban political prisoner José Daniel Ferrer García in the "black spring" of 2003 was sentenced to 25 years in prison, largely because of his advocacy for a series of proposed political reforms known as the Varela Project.
Almost seven years later in the Castro gulag, Ferrer is still campaigning for a change.
In an open letter to Raúl Castro this week, Ferrer calls for the dictatorship to enact the Varela Project reforms, starting with holding free elections.
Ferrer reminded Castro that in Cuba, "the people are growing tired of the lies of their rulers, the people are tired of being forced to live in poverty, and without freedom."
