Sayli Navarro
Cuban college student Sayli Navarro, the daughter of political prisoner Félix Navarro Rodríguez, was expelled from the University of Matanzas earlier this month.
The reason should make daughter and father very proud.
In a letter to the Cuban Democratic Direcotorate, Sayli said college officials told her she was expelled because last year she attended classes at the U.S. Interest Section in Havana on how to be an independent journalism. The classes were presented via video teleconference from Florida International University.
Her father's example has served Sayli well.
"This is proof that human rights continue to be violated in Cuba, that in Cuba those who differ from the official views of Fidel Castro, continue to be assaulted," Sayli said.
A former teacher, Félix Navarro during the "black spring" of 2003, was sentenced to 25 years in prison because of his pro-democracy activities. Read more about him, here.
