Ariel Sigler Amaya, at his mother's wake after almost 7 years in prison
Cuban dissident leader Martha Beatriz Roque has posted on her Facebook page several photos taken during last Friday's wake for Gloria Amaya Gonzalez, including several of her son, the political prisoner Ariel Sigler Amaya.
I gasped when I saw the photos of Ariel.
I have written several posts on his declining health and how the Castro dictatorship has been unable and/or unwilling to provide him the medical care he needs.
But not until I saw the photos, including one of Ariel on a stretcher, did I fully understand the toll that almost seven years in prison has taken on him.
The dictatorship compounded the loss for Ariel by making sure that he and his brother Guido, also a political prisoner, were not allowed to attend the wake at the same time.
With God's grace and your prayers, the next funeral Ariel Sigler Amaya attends will not be his own.
