Dr. Darsi Ferrer's "trial" was a farce, so his conviction and sentence, including 4 months of house arrest on top of the 11 months he served in prison, are unacceptable.
"I will not accept any sentence, because I have not committed any crime," he said in an interview with a Miami radio station.
Today, however, was a good day for the cause of Cuban freedom, as Cubans on the island and in exile united on his behalf to ensure that the dictatorship would not be able to get away unnoticed with its unjust prosecution of this giant of the Cuban opposition.
Obviously, 11 months in prison did not break Ferrer's will, and as he told radio interviewer, his body will recover. I expect he will soon resume his work for a better Cuba.
And it was a great day for Dr. Ferrer because he has been reunited with his family.
