UPDATED, June 26, 2010 — Sources on the island report that Guillermo Fariñas is unconscious and suffering from high fever. God bless this brave man.

Four months ago today, in the wake of the death of political prisoner Orlando Zapata Tamayo, Cuban independent journalist Guillermo Fariñas started a hunger strike to demand the release of some two dozen seriously ill political prisoners.
So far, only one, Ariel Sigler Amaya, has been released.
While the Catholic Church hierarchy has received the bulk of the credit for Sigler's release, were it not for the sacrifices of Zapata and Fariñas, many in the world might never have heard of Sigler or others locked away in the Castro gulag because of their opposition to tyranny.
So far, only one seriously ill political prisoner has been released.
So Fariñas's protest, which has left him hospitalized for several months, his only nourishment coming via IV, continues.
God bless Guillermo Fariñas.
