Cuban political prisoner on hunger strike, demanding medical care

Cuban political prisoner Orestes Yumar Julién Gómez has been on hunger strike since Aug. 7, demanding needed medical care. In addition to problems brought by his protest, Julién, a human rights activist, suffers from kidney problems and epilepsy, among other ailments.

Imprisoned since December 2006, Julién also has to breathe through a tube in his throat because of a beating he received from guards several years ago.

Independent journalist Ana Margarita Perdigón Brito has the story.
