Three former Cuban political prisoners arrived in Spain on Friday after being kicked off the island.
The prisoners, who were not covered by the original deal between Spain, the Cuban Catholic Church and Spain for the release of 52 prisoners, are:
- Rolando Jimenez Posada, the only Amnesty International prisoner of conscience not covered by the agreement. In the wake of the "black spring" of 2003, Jimenez, a lawyer, was sentenced to 12 years in prison for "disrespecting" authority and "revealing state secrets."
- Ciro Perez Santana, who in 1994 was sentenced to 20 years in prison for attempted illegal exit, piracy, illegal weapons possession and causing injuries.
- Arturo Suarez Ramos, who in 1987 was sentenced to 30 years in prison for attempted illegal exit and piracy. He had originally been sentenced to death.
