Cuban Cardinal Jaime Ortega today asked the Damas De Blanco for "patience," because he is certain that Raúl Castro will "keep his word" and free the 13 prisoners of conscience covered by the deal between Spain, Cuba and the church, still in jail because of their refusal to accept forced exile.
Ortega has made it a habit to run interference for the regime, but his latest excuse-making for Castro was the ultimate insult. For more than seven years, the Damas have been plenty patient, waiting for their loved ones to be released from their unjust imprisonment.
That Ortega could not give them a exact date for the promised releases, while defending Castro's virtue, reveals whose interests he is serving.
The cardinal should be ashamed for asking the Damas to wait one second more.
May God grant him the mercy he clearly does not deserve.
