Catholic Cardinal Jaime Ortega on July 7, 2010, announced a deal between the church, the Spanish government and the Castro dictatorship for the release of 52 prisoners of conscience in jail since the "black spring" crackdown of 2003. Ortega said then the releases would be completed in "three or four months."
Six months later, 11 prisoners remain in jail, because of their refusal to accept forced exile to Spain as a condition of their "freedom."
One of those men is Diosdado González Marrero.
