Cuban prisoner of conscience Guido Sigler Amaya today was released after almost 8 years of unjust imprisonment.
Contrary to what was reported by the Catholic Church, he has not yet decided whether he will travel to the United States.
This is a wonderful day for Sigler and for his family, especially since it appears he will not be forced to take exile in Spain like so many other of the prisoners released under a July 2010 deal between the church, the Spanish government and the Castro dictatorship.
That he is not being forced to take exile is testament to his continued resistance to his oppressors, and that of the other Group of 75 prisoners still in jail because of their refusal to accept the terms of the Spain-church-Cuba arrangement.
