Babalu has a disturbing report detailing an apparent move by the Castro secret police against two prominent Cuban dissidents, including former political prisoner Sara Martha Fonseca. Unfortunately, I'm afraid we will see a lot of this in coming days, with next week's one-year anniversary of the death of Orlando Zapata Tamayo and the Internet-based call for an Egypt-style uprising on the island.
The report was originally written by Cuban human rights activist and former political prisoner Jorge Luis Garcia Perez Antúnez.
This afternoon I received a text message from Sara Martha Fonseca stating that she and fellow member of the opposition, Ismarys Salomon had been arrested. I attempted to reach them via their cell phones but their lines have been cut off as the regime usually does whenever they arrest a dissident.
At this moment the whereabouts of Sara Martha and Ismarys is unknown, and we fear for their safety. We cannot confirm if they were arrested, or if they were violently assaulted by Castro security agents.
We call out to all Cubans and the international community and plead for help in the case of these two courageous women members of the democracy movement here in Cuba.
From Placetas, in the center of Cuba for Babalú Blog, this is Jorge Luis Garcia Perez Antúnez, an ex-political prisoner who will not be silenced, and who will not leave Cuba.
