Our prayers tonight with the family of Cuban Lady In White Marlene Gonzalez Conesa, who passed away in Tampa late Wednesday after a lengthy illness.
Along with her daughter Melissa, Marlene bravely and gracefully stood by their husband and father Jorge Luis Gonzalez Tanquero, one of the Group of 75 dissidents imprisoned during the "black spring" of 2003. President George W. Bush honored the family during a 2007 event at the White House.

Marlene and Melissa also marched on behalf of Tanquero during a pro-Cuban freedom event in Tampa in 2010.

The family was briefly reunited in Spain after Tanquero was released from prison in 2010. But before he could rejoin them in Florida, Marlene fell ill, compounding the family's suffering.
As they mourn, may they find comfort in each other's support and in that of their friends, and in God's grace.
