I know it is not right to wish someone dead, but here's hoping that this is Fidel Castro's final birthday on this Earth.
His death should be the wish of all who long for a free Cuba, because not until his demise can the transition to democracy, freedom and respect for human rights on the island truly begin. With all offense to Raul Castro intended, it is his big brother, "retired" as he may be, who looms largest over Cuba today -- although Raul's death sooner rather than late would be welcome, too.
In the five years since Fidel stepped aside in favor of Raul, there has not been the change many imagined would occur. That is because the fear in the people that Fidel fed on for almost 50 years to stay in power, remains, standing in the way of any uprising or other social upheaval.
Only a biological solution can eradicate that fear.
