It was a busy Sunday for the Castro regime's goon squads:
- In Santiago de Cuba, thugs doing the bidding of police shouted insults and waved sticks and other potential weapons at 20 members of the Damas De Blanco ("Ladies In White") as they left Mass at the main cathedral. Police forced the women to board a bus.
- In Palma Soriano, thugs doing the bidding of police attacked the home of former prisoner of conscience Jose Daniel Ferrer Garcia and other anti-Castro activists. There were reports of several injuries. Ferrer reported events in real time via Twitter, and blogger Raul Garcia has more on his Twitter feed, including in English.
These are not random, spontaneous events but rather part of the Castro dictatorship's coordinated effort to target anyone who challenges its authority by demanding change and by demanding freedom.
Despite the best wishes of fools and others, the Castro regime is as vile and repressive as ever and is deserving of no concession. The "reform" that Cuba most needs is freedom from this scum.
If this type of repression is ignored and the regime rewarded, it only gives the Castros, who fear the freedom that these Cubans are striving for and their minions the license to continue.
The Damas, Jose Daniel Ferrer Garcia and other brave Cubans are depending on us to pay attention and to denounce these atrocities, in order to provide them some protection.
That is a challenge we all need to take on in our own way.
