In solidarity with the Damas De Blanco and other Cubans on the island struggling for freedom, Cuban Americans and others on Sunday marched in Tampa to support their cause and to remember Laura Pollan, the founder of the Damas who died in Havana on Oct. 14.
Hopefully, our small action reminds those Cubans fighting for freedom on the island -- and those who persecute them -- that they are not forgotten, that they are not alone.
And that it demonstrates that there are men and women of all ages ready to do our part to carry on the legacy of Laura Pollan so that the cause of freedom prevails.
UPDATED, 5:30 p.m. EDT -- We march in Tampa while about 50 Damas De Blanco marched in Havana, and three Damas marched in Santiago de Cuba. In Santiago, several Damas were arrested and detained to prevent them from going to Mass to pray for Laura Pollan and Cuban political prisoners.
