Cuban prisoners of conscience Marco Maykel and Antonio Michael Lima Cruz this week declared themselves on hunger strike to protest the arrests of their parents, according to the Hablemos Press news agency.
Adisnidia Cruz Segreo, a member of the Cuban Damas De Blanco (Ladies In White) and her husband Marco Antonio Lima Dalmao, a reporter, were arrested Tuesday, Sept. 18, while leaving their home, and they were being held at a police station in Holguin.
Their sons have been imprisoned since May 2011, when they were arrested while marching through the streets with a Cuban flag while shouting anti-Castro slogans and listening to the music of Cuban hip-hop stars Los Aldeanos. Marcos was sentenced to 3 years on charges of "public disorder" and "insulting national symbols," and Antonio was sentenced to 2 years in prison.
This past March, Amnesty International recognized the brothers as prisoners of conscience.
