Cuban political prisoner Luis Enrique Ponce Sánchez has started a hunger strike.
His demands are clear: That prison guards and other government officials cease its abuse of inmates and improve the food and medical care. And that the government end its repression of human rights activists and respect the human rights of all Cubans.
Considering the Castro dictatorship's track record, those are demands that likely will be ignored.
Hopefully, that won't cost Ponce his life.
Ponce, an activist with the Orlando Zapata Tamayo National Civic Resistance and Civil Disobedience Front, is currently serving a 4-year sentence after he was convicted of being a "pre-criminal social danger."
