The Hablemos Press news agency reports that there were at least 255 politically motivated arrests in Cuba in July.
"The repressive Castroite forces arbitrarily arrested and beat dozens of activists and opponents when they tried to attend mass meetings and peaceful activities to demand respect for human rights," said Roberto de Jesus Guerra Perez, director of Hablemos Press.
"The violence persists, the discrimination against women," Guerra said. "More than 50 women members of the Ladies in White movement have been beaten and abused while trying to attend Mass in various Catholic churches."
The July tally takes the number of arrests reported by Hablemos Press for the year to 2,297.
