On hunger strike for 66 days to demand his release, his protest is slowly claiming the life of Cuban political prisoner Marcelino Abreu Bonora.
After she was able to visit Abreu on Sunday, his wife reported that his hunger strike has left him with a high fever, a shortness of breath, constant chest pains, low blood pressure and cramps in his arms and legs.
Abreu was arrested Aug. 13, 2012 -- Fidel Castro's birthday -- after the police caught him distributing anti-government leaflets and shouting anti-Castro slogans.
It wasn't until more than a year later, on Aug. 29, 2013, that Abreu was tried, convicted of bogus charges of "public disorder" and "disrespecting" Fidel Castro -- yes, the latter is a real "crime" in Cuba -- and sentenced to 4 years in prison.
Less than a month later, Abreu started his hunger strike to demand his immediate release.
His protest is his own, it is, however, the Castro dictatorship that will be responsibe, if Abreu dies.
